CHARLES J. FRATUS
Mr. Fratus graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1992 with a B.A. in History and Philosophy, and from the University of Baltimore in 1996 with his J.D.
Mr. Fratus was admitted to the Maryland Court of Appeals in 1996, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland in 1997, and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals in 1999.
Memberships include: Maryland State Bar Association, District of Columbia Bar Association, Anne Arundel County Bar Association, National Association of Subrogation Professionals, and the Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Fratus is also listed in AM Best's Directory of Recommended Insurance Attorneys.
Mr. Fratus is an experienced civil litigator appearing regularly before both the circuit and the district courts throughout the State. Mr. Fratus has significant and substantial experience in the handling of motor tort litigation from both the plaintiff and defense perspective.
For more than eight years, Mr. Fratus has worked exclusively for several of the largest insurance carriers in the area of insurance subrogation and defense. In his capacity as a subrogation attorney, Mr. Fratus has filed hundreds of suits against individual drivers, companies, and local governments to recover money for his clients. Over that period of time, he has developed an excellent relationship with the local defense bar and gained an invaluable understanding of what the plaintiffs and their counsel wish to accomplish in trial. His work in insurance defense and subrogation include the defense of insurance companies commercial motor vehicle claims, including automobile personal injury, construction-related litigation, products liability, insurance coverage issues, workers' compensation matters, and general litigation of all types. This representation involves a variety of litigation situations at the Federal, Appellate, Circuit and District court levels.
As discussed above, all of Mr. Fratus' trial experience is on behalf of automobile and homeowner insurance carriers and agencies. Mr. Fratus has defended several hundred cases involving motor torts, premises liability, and general negligence. These cases will range from $500.00 to several million dollars of property and damage and/or personal injury. The ability to work for several different insurance carriers, as well as subrogate against a majority of the transportation companies, provides Mr. Fratus with a unique perspective as to what to expect in almost every situation that may arise in litigating a case.
Mr. Fratus has and is currently handling several cases with millions of dollars in damages. All of the complex defense and subrogation cases handled by Mr. Fratus involve a wide range of experts and technical specialists whom aid in the preparation and trial of his cases.
